Accountant, Fuel Attendant caged for forgery in Choma

CHOMA, 4th Feb, 2014, ZANIS…POLICE in Choma have arrested an accountant and a fuel attendant of Aupee service filling station for theft by servant and forgery.

Out-going Southern Province Police Chief, Charity Katanga, confirmed the incidence in an interview with ZANIS  IN Choma , yesterday.

 

Ms Katanga named the suspected accountant as Joseph Mooye, 44, of show grounds residential area.  

 

The other suspect was identified as Kelvin Kayawe, 42, a fuel attendant, of Zambia Township in Choma.

 

Ms Katanga said the duo was arrested at the weekend for alleged theft by servant and forgery of accounting receipts amounting to K22, 000.

 

She said, in the first count, Mooye and Kayawe have been charged with theft by servant contrary to section 342 Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

 

In the second count, she said that the duo was charged with forgery by uttering false documents contrary to section 278 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

 

Ms Katanga said Mooye and Kayawe allegedly stole the funds which belong to Prakash Naik, who was the proprietor of Arupee service filling station.

 

“We arrested the duo after wed received a report of theft by servant and forgery involving the two,” she said.

 

Ms Katanga said, the alleged stealing of funds by the two workers had been happening since 2012 up to date without being noticed by Mr. Naik.

 

She, however, said auditors had been engaged at the firm to audit the accounting books and that more funds could have been stolen from the filling station.

 

She said, three more workers from the firm were expected to be summoned today and interrogated by police in connection with alleged stealing of Mr. Naik’s funds.
