50 kilometers of roads to be rehabilited in Kitwe
Kitwe, February 4th, 2014, ZANIS — Kitwe District Commissioner Elias Kamanga says over 50 Kilometres of urban roads in the city will this year be worked on under the Pave Zambia roads project set to commence in the district soon.
Mr Kamanga said the equipment for project will be arriving in the district within this month.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner reveled this development in an interview, today.
He has since directed the squatters occupying the former Roads Department Shed to vacate the place as it will be used for storage of the equipment for the roads project.
Mr Kamanga said once the project is completed, all the roads in the city will have been repaired making driving on these roads comfortable.
The Pave Zambia project has already started in Lusaka and is now expected to be extended to other provinces and districts countrywide.
Under the project, a stretch of 2000 Kilometres of the roads country wide will be repaired.
Meanwhile the District Commissioner has expressed happiness with the works being done on the Kitwe-Chingola dual Carriage way.
He said almost all the earth works on the new carriage way has been done.
He however observed that the rains were posing a challenge on the pace of the projects but was optimist that the project will be completed within the stipulated time frame.
The district commissioner further commended the contractor working on the Kitwe –Ndola dual Carriage way where repair works are in progress also.
He said the repair works are almost complete making the road safer to travel on.
