Mitete District cries for a school
Lukulu, February 3, 2014 ZANIS—Concerned residents of Kakulunda area in Mitete District of Western Province have appealed to government to construct Secondary Schools in the District.
One of the resident identified as Tony Lindeho said Mitete District has no secondary school hence a challenge to the people in the area.
ZANIS reports from Mitete diostrict that Mr. Lindeho said this on behalf of his colleagues during a public meeting in Mitete, District today.
He said that the challenge to many parents saying their children travel long distances adding that the only secondary schools are in Lukulu District were their children are selected to grade 10.
He said once pupils make it to grade 10, parents need to pay for their accommodation, food, transport and school materials as they travel to lukulu each term which is a cost to them.
Mr Lindeho has since called on government to construct more schools in the area so that Educational Services can be taken closer to the people.
And Kakulunda Basic School Head Teacher Mate Libako said out of 82 pupils who sat for grade 9 examinations in 2013, 28 were selected to grade 10 saying only 5 of them were given schools.
Mr. Libako said the school is also facing challenges such as teachers accommodation, transport and water system among others.
And speaking during the meeting that took place at Kakulunda Basic School, Lukulu District Education Board Secretary Ndopu Mukata said government has upgraded Lubosi and Mulongo Basic Schools to make sure that pupils who were selected to grade 10 can be accommodated at the 2 schools in Lukulu District.
Mr Mukata said this year has been a challenge both for Mitete and Lukulu Districts saying there have been a good number of pupils who have been selected to grade 10.
He said it is his hope that the challenges faced by the people in Mitete District will be of the past saying government’s plan is to build more secondary schools in each District.
Mr. Mukata said Lukulu Boarding School will soon open once the water system is in operational.
