Vocational Training and Early Education Minister John Phiri has urged teachers to ignore politicians suggesting that the new school curriculum intends to introduce Bemba as an official language.
Dr Phiri said yesterday in a Press statement that it was not possible for the Government to introduce Bemba as an official language, adding that it would divide the nation.
He said in response to UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema’s statement that the Government wanted to have Bemba as the official language that there should not be divisive politics.
Dr Phiri advised Mr Hichilema to desist from commenting on issues concerning education because they would not gain him political mileage.
He said a person who aspired to rule Zambia should exercise restraint over issues that were likely to stir strife in the country and should leave those issues on education to professionals best suited to lead public opinion.
