North Western Province Minister NATHANIEL MUBUKWANU says Road and Paving Limited, a company awarded to work on the Chingola Solwezi road has no capacity to do the works.
Mr. MUBUKWANU has wondered why the Road Development Agency RDA awarded the contract to the company which lacks capacity and has no adequate equipment to do the works.
Mr. MUBUKWANU was speaking when officials from the Road Development Agency called on him at his office on Thursday.
Mr. MUBUKWANU says people in the region no longer regard the Chingola Solwezi road as an economical road but a political one.
But RDA Director of Maintenance EMMANUEL KAUNDA says China GEO has been sub-contracted and will be working along side Road and Paving Limited
And Road and Paving Limited Managing Director CHANDRA BHOWMIK admitted that his company has no capacity to carry out the revised work alone.
Mr. BHOWMIK however is optimistic that the pace will improve following the engagement of China Geo.
PRESIDENT Sata this week directed that urgent interventions should be undertaken to expedite construction works on the Solwezi-Chingola Road.
Mr Sata, who received a lot of complaints over the state of Solwezi-Chingola road, summoned Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Yamfwa Mukanga to get an update of the road construction project.
The President said in a message posted on his Facebook page that construction works on the Solwezi-Chingola Road should be completed even if it means engaging another contractor.
