The Eastern Water and Sewerage Company has expressed regret on the recent water shortage in some areas of Chipata district.
EWSC Managing Director Wamuwi Changani said there was however a lot of improvement in areas that were affected.
Mr. Changani said all areas were now receiving water regularly.
He told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka that the water shortage in areas such as Chimwemwe was caused by the blocking of a pressure valve three days ago.
He said the company has since instituted a pressure balance exercise so that areas such as Kapata and Chimwemwe townships that are under rationing can have adequate supply of water.
Mr. Changani said the two townships were under rationing because of high water pressure in other areas.
He further said the water balancing exercise would be completed at the end of January 2014.
Mr. Changani said the challenge the company was facing was as a result of the huge demand for water especially during peak periods due to population growth in the district.
