Good Morning Friends,
Today, I wish to share with you our Government’s progress on the construction of selected road works within our capital city of Lusaka, which is aimed at establishing an enabling investment climate in order to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), stimulate local investments and create jobs. As of December 2013, a total of 2,769 jobs were created during the on-going construction works of 991km of roads in and around Lusaka, which is costing a total of K1.3 million. The progress on the works done so far is as follows:
1. Upgrading to Bituminous Standard of 43km of the Leopards Hill Road from State Lodge to Katoba Basic School: 95.6% COMPLETE
2. Construction of the 50km Various Internal Roads of the Lusaka South Multi Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ): 90.6% PROGRESS
3. Rehabilitation of T2: Lusaka – Chirundu Road: 95% PROGRESS
4. Construction of a Bridge at Chiawa across the Kafue River: 80% PROGRESS
5. Upgrading to Bituminous Standard approximately 91km of D145 from Great East Road at Luangwa Bridge to Feira: 38% PROGRESS
6. Upgrading of Kasisi to Ngwerere Basic School: 25% PROGRESS
7. Engineering design, rehabilitation and construction of approximately 360km of selected Lusaka Urban Roads: WORKS ON-GOING
I am determined to see our people’s living standards improve through our Government’s implementation of sound and practical economic policies including the efficient delivery of road infrastructure. During the course of this month I will be updating you on the PROGRESS of various road projects being undertaken province by province countrywide.
