–Nangoma Constituency Member of Parliament, Boyd Hamusonde, has appealed to government through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to assist families whose houses were destroyed by a heavy storm in Chisalu area in Mumbwa district.
Mr Hamusonde said about 23 households in Chief Shakumbila’s area had their roofs blown off by the storm that hit the area last week.
He said the storm has adversely affected most of the families as they have lost both their household goods and food because some of them had their houses completely razed.
And Chimaika village headman’s representative, Alex Nduluma, said the storm has brought suffering on the affected families, adding that most of them had lost their food and shelter.
Mr Nduluma added that a community outreach health post where antenatal and under five clinics were being conducted was destroyed, posing a challenge for pregnant women as they have to walk about 20 km to access the nearest health centre.
And Manford Sibangani who is one of the affected people, had his house completely razed by the storm and has called on both government and well-wishers to come to his rescue as he lost all his household goods and food.
Mr. Sibangani said he was lucky that he did not die when the heavy storm ripped off the roof of his house whilst he was inside, saying he was only injured on the left leg by some bricks which fell on him.
