A FORMER diplomat, Friday Nkamba has been warned against interfering with witnesses in a matter in which he is charged with engaging girls in prostitution.

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman yesterday testified how the five girls shared the same bed with Nkamba while he was dressed in shorts.

Lusaka Resident Magistrate Willie Banda warned Nkamba, 60, that he risked losing his freedom if he continued to interfere with witnesses.

This is in a matter in which Nkamba of Emmasdale Township in Lusaka is facing one count of procuring girls for prostitution contrary to Section 140 (b) of the Penal Code Amendment Act number 15 b of 2005 of the laws of Zambia.

He is alleged to have on dates unknown but between January 1, 2012 and 29 October, 2013 in Lusaka procured five identified girls to become common prostitutes.

Mr Banda warned Nkamba after the investigations officer Zachariah Tande told the court that he was interfering with witnesses by threatening them with mysterious deaths.

Mr Tande told Mr Banda that because of Nkamba’s interference, two girls who were supposed to testify in the matter yesterday ran away from the court after Nkamba talked to them.

He further informed the court that Nkamba had written a letter to one of the witnesses, Jocob Mbewe, threatening him that he was going to be infected with cancer mysteriously and that he would eventually die.

Mr Tande said Nkamba had been knocking at Mr Mbewe’s house and shouting at him and his wife, accusing them of causing trouble to him.

But Mr Banda in response warned Nkamba against his conduct and that should he continue with the same behaviour, the State would at the next sitting apply to have his bail revoked.

And during trial, a 21-year-old woman told the court how Nkamba had sexual intercourse with her despite making her pay him K20 every Sunday from the prostitution proceeds.

The girl of Chudleigh Township in Lusaka said he knew Nkamba in 2013 after she was introduced to him by a friend.

She said one day after returning from her routine business with a friend, they went to Nkamba’s house and found him in the sitting room where he was writing.

The girl said she and the other girl proceeded to the bedroom and joined three other girls on the one bed.

She said minutes later, Nkamba, who was dressed in a pair of shorts. entered the bedroom and joined them.

Mr Banda adjourned the matter to Monday for continued trial.
