A seven tonne Fuso truck, registration number ACP9587 carrying a consignment of relief maize for Chiawa has overturned at Kapiri Ngozi area in Chilundu district, killing one person in the process.
And the local people have looted almost half of the bags of maize at the accident scene.
Kafue District Commissioner, Grace Ngulube and Chilundu District Commissioner, Maxwell Shemalimba, confirmed the development to ZANIS at the scene of the accident.
The truck, belonging to Recap Company, which was contracted to deliver the maize to Chiawa by the District Administration, was currying 200 by 25kgs bags of maize.
The accident happened around 10.00 hours.
According to the co-driver, Douglus Mwinga, the truck was avoiding another vehicle which was coming from Chirundu to Kafue before hitting on the hill and overturned killing one person and one injured.
And a male nurse, David Nkhata at Mutendere Hospital in Chirundu District, said the truck driver was identified as Matthews Sinkala who sustained bruises and one passenger by the name of Phemi Chibandula who was in the vehicle also sustained a big cut on the head.
The nurse described the condition as stable and out of danger.
Both the District Commissioners called for intensified road patrols in the Kapiringozi area.
They also attributed the accident to the local people around Kapiringozi area who throw stones on the road so that they cause accident to enable them loot the commodities on the vehicles.
