Road Contractor warns motorists
Luangwa, January 9, ZANIS —–A road contractor tarring the 89Km Luangwa D145 main road in Luangwa district has warned motorists to observe the road signs the contractor has put along the road to avoid accidents.
China Geo Engineering Cooperation Foreman, Parnwell Kasonka told ZANIS yesterday during a monitoring visit on the works being done on the D145 Luangwa main road that the company was concerned with some drivers over speeding especially on the 53Km stretch that they have tarred and opened up to motorists.
Mr Kasonka observed that motorists were over speeding and not following the speed limits that they have put on road signs creating fear that they will record some accidents.
He said last year in December, a mini bus driver killed a person who was sleeping on the road after a drinking spree at Kaunga because of over speeding.
The Roads Foreman said children in the area have resorted to be playing along the road especially on the portion that has been tarred.
Mr Kasonka has since appealed to road users especially motorists to observe road side sign posts and avoid over speeding to avert accidents.
He also said now that his company is working on culverts it is even more dangerous to motorists who do not observe roads sign posts that they have put along the road.
And the traditional leadership and residents of Luangwa district have commended President Sata and the PF government for fulfilling their promise of tarring the Luangwa D145 main road which had been a source of concern for the people in the area.
Senior Chief Mburuma of the Senga- Ludzi said he was happy with the works been done on the D145 road saying once the whole stretch is tarred it will enhance development in the area.
Chief Mburuma said for the more than twenty years that he has been on the throne this was the first time he was seeing a tarmac on the much talked about Luangwa D145 main road.
He thanked government for considering tarring the Luangwa D145 main road which has been a source of concern for many years.
Meanwhile Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba has commended China Geo Engineering Cooperation for the good workmanship and working on schedule.
Mr Mumba said he was happy with the pace the Contractor was working at, saying he was sure that they will finish the road by November this year.
He also commended government for ensuring that all the outstanding projects such as the District Hospital and the Day Secondary School are finished.
The District Commissioner said government through the Ministry of Education will this term open the newly constructed Luangwa Day Secondary school.
