STEPHEN Masumba, the Mufumbwe member of Parliament and former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport, popularly known for his public acrobatics and recently for firing his gun in the air on New Year’s Day, has been voted the most popular man for the year 2013 by a Muvi Television poll.

Mr Masumba was yesterday pitted against former Minister of Defence Geoffrey Mwamba and Lusaka businessman Golden Phiri, who came to the public limelight in 2013 for practicing bigamy.
According to the final result, Mr Masumba emerged winner with 62 percent of the vote while GBM polled 28.5 percent and Mr Phiri garnered only 9.5 percent of total votes counted.
Muvi Television general manager Costa Mwansa said in an interview that the public opinion poll was conducted to determine who among the three men was considered to have made the most waves in the media in 2013.
“The opinion poll was simply based on popularity to see who the viewers felt was the man-of-the-year in terms of popularity,” Mr Mwansa said.
The poll was a feature on the Muvi Television breakfast show called Breakfast with the Boys which airs on Saturday morning.
The viewers, who responded via text messaging, shortlisted the three men before selecting Mr Masumba as their most popular man in 2013.
Mr Masumba made news in 2013 for his acrobatic displays at various entertainment events in Lusaka, where he demonstrated his energetic and free spirited nature.
This was prior to his fall from grace as Deputy Minister of Sport following his conviction by the Lusaka Magistrates Court for obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretenses.
