Connecting Point of Park Cities announced in October that it had teamed up with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw. At a Jan. 11 event, Clayton and his wife Ellen, who are both Highland Park High School alumnae, will speak on the organization, Kershaw’s Challenge and their efforts to start an orphanage in Zambia.
Since Connecting Point of Park Cities launched its campaign to raise the $300,000 needed to open the nonprofit day program in June, it has raised more than $100,000, JoAnn Ryan said.
“We’re real excited that, with just one mailing, we’ve been able to accomplish a third of our goal,” she said.
The group also announced in October that it had teamed up with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw for an event to be held Jan. 11. Clayton and his wife, Ellen, who are both Highland Park High School alumnae, will speak on the organization, Kershaw’s Challenge and their efforts to start an orphanage in Zambia.
JoAnn Ryan hopes the proceeds from the event will help Connecting Point get closer or possibly meet its fundraising mark.
“[Clayton] just feels like [his athletic gift] was given to him so that he has a platform to do these things for other people and felt like, joining with us, he could really make a difference in whether we could open our doors or not,” JoAnn Ryan said.
