POLICE in Lusaka are holding a 27-year-old man of Bauleni Township for allegedly killing his wife after a marital dispute.

Deputy police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement yesterday that the man, whose identity had been withheld, was apprehended for allegedly killing his wife Ruth Phiri Banda, 27, on Sunday around 19:00 hours.

“It is alleged that the couple had a marital dispute which led to a fight and afterwards the wife sustained injuries and died on the way to the hospital,” Mr Hamoonga said.

Police were waiting for a postmortem to be conducted.

Some neighbours said Ms Banda was stabbed with a knife.

In Chipata, Daniel Nkhoma, 28, died on Sunday after being hit by a motor vehicle as he was on a motorbike.

Mr Nkhoma was hit around 17:20 hours at Katopola junction on Airport Road.

“The accident happened when the driver of the motor vehicle suddenly turned right without giving way to the on-coming motorbike which had the right of way,” Mr Hamoonga said.

The unidentified driver has since been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and would appear in court soon.

Mr Hamoonga said the body of the deceased was in Chipata General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
