Man defiles 2 girls, flees

TWO juveniles aged between 10 and 13 years from the same family in Monze District have been repeatedly defiled by a suspected male relative who is now on the run.

In a related case, a 15-year-old girl of Chief Singani’s area in Choma District has also been defiled by a 22-year-old man of the same village.

Southern Province assistant police commissioner Kashif Mphande confirmed yesterday, the two defilement cases which happened last week.

Mr Mphande said the unidentified man with no fixed abode but resides in the notorious Manungu Township in Monze defiled the juveniles on Thursday around 21:00 hours.

“This unidentified man is on the run, he got hold of these two young sisters of the same family and defiled them but we are looking for him,” he said.

Mr Mphande could not give more details on the matter, but police sources in Monze said the suspect was a relative of the two juveniles and knew the house where they used to sleep.

In Choma, Mr Mphande named the suspect as Layment Hambulo, 22, of Mpangwe area in Chief Singani’s area who allegedly defiled a juvenile of the same village on Thursday around 22:00 hours.

He said Hambulo of an unknown house number allegedly defiled the juvenile and that she sustained injuries on her private parts. Police have launched a manhunt.

Meanwhile, a goods train has hit an unidentified man of Livingstone who died on the spot.

This comes barely a week after another unidentified man in the tourist capital was hit and killed by a goods train.

Mr Mphande said the man aged between 30 and 35 years old was run over by the train near Ngwenya Township at the weekend.

 ”The deceased was hit by a goods train, his legs were cut off including his right arm which was also amputated,” he said.

He said the body of the man was in Batoka Hospital mortuary awaiting identification.
