Mulenga claimed a bronze medal after recording an emphatic 2-0 victory over Youcef Sabri of Algeria.
Earlier, Mulenga’s dream for another gold medal at the continental competition this year was shattered when he was eliminated from the tournament after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Juliene Paul of Mauritius, who went on to win the seniors competition.
Mulenga developed a hamstring injury while participating in the seniors’ tournament and was eliminated in the pre-quarter stage by Tinashe Olenkantse of Botswana as Chongo Ngosa suffered the same fate following a defeat to Abdelrahman Kashkal of Egypt.
The duo were the only Zambians that managed to reach second round stage as most of them were booted out in the first round.
Meanwhile, the men’s team started the Africa Schools championship on a strong note winning four games in a row.
This team event championship whose games were being played on a round robin basis saw Zambia beat Ghana, Namibia, Kenya and hosts South Africa, all by 5-0 scoreline to set up a semi final clash against defending champions Mauritius today.
Mauritius beat Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Namibia enroute to the semi final.
The women’s team on the other hand, beat Zimbabwe and Kenya but suffered defeats against Namibia and South Africa and were yesterday scheduled to play Botswana.
The tournament that started on Sunday preceded the Under 18’s competition and comes to an end today.
