Government is drilling 60 boreholes in Mpulungu district in Northern Province.
Mpulungu Member of Parliament (MP) Freedom Sikazwe disclosed this to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today.
Mr. Sikazwe, who is Patriotic Front (PF) MP, said the Ministry of Local Government and Housing was facilitating the drilling of the boreholes in his area.
He could however not disclose how much the project will cost but said more boreholes would be sunk to increase access to water points since the commodity was scarce in Mpulungu.
He said this development would help in attaining the UN 2015 Millennium Development Goal (MDG) on water and sanitation because access to clean water was vital.
He further disclosed that government has engaged the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to construct bridges in his constituency.
The Mpulungu MP named some of the bridges that have been repaired as Chinakila, Kayesha, Lubaleshi and Nyendwe.
Mr. Sikazwe, who is also Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister, is happy that government, through the Ministry of Health, had carried out a vigorous sensitization exercise on how to prevent the outbreak of cholera which is a perennial disease in the district.
