Govt disburses K40m youth development fund

—Government has disbursed over K40 million to over 900 youths from the Youth Development Fund to finance various business projects.

Assistant Director at the Ministry of Youth and Sport, Muma Mukupa, disclosed this at the Junior Chamber International (JCI) induction ceremony at Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka last evening.

Speaking on behalf of Ministry of Youth and Sport Permanent Secretary, Agness  Musunga,  Mr Mukupa said government wants to promote youth entrepreneurship  that will create jobs for other youths in the country.

He said over 1,000 jobs have since being created by the youth business ventures that his ministry had funded.

He also announced that his ministry had finalised the review of the National Youth Policy intended to effectively address youth problems and with support from its development  partners is developing a National Youth Employment Strategy which will be used to develop solutions to address the high youth unemployment levels.

Mr Mukupa commended the JCI for selfless provision of voluntary service to humanity and urged the organisation to continue being a vehicle for youth leadership development in business and politics.
