A 20-YEAR-OLD housewife of Kitwe’s Racecourse township in Kitwe has been raped at Bread of Life Church, where she went for overnight prayers.
And a parent of Kitwe’s Mulenga township has accidentally run over his one-year and eight months old son as he was trying to drive the car within the yard.
The woman is believed to have been raped inside the church where she decided to sleep after the prayers were over.
Acting Copperbelt police commissioner Joyce Kasosa confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.
Ms Kasosa said two men forced themselves inside the church and took turns in raping her.
She said police are still investigating the matter that took place in the early hours of yesterday.
And Ms Kasosa said Joe Silomba, 24, of house number MS 686 Mulenga township in Kitwe, accidentally ran over his son with a Toyota Spacio registration number ADL 7443 within the yard.
Ms Kasosa has identified the deceased child as Chrispin Silomba and that the accident occurred around 21:50 hours on Wednesday.
In a related incident, an unidentified cyclist died on the spot as the vehicle that was coming in the direction he was riding knocked him down.
Ms Kasosa said the accident involving a Toyota Raum registration number ACM 7266 happened on Chalala Road opposite Lubuto Extension Baptist Church in Ndola.
The driver of the said vehicle, identified as Paul Chipali, 34, of house number 7602 Lubuto township is on the run.
“The 14-year-old juvenile sustained a fractured right leg, deep cuts and suspected internal injuries and died on the spot,’’ Ms Kasosa said.
And an unknown pedestrian was run over by an unknown vehicle between 02:00 and 03:00 hours yesterday on the Kabwe-Ndola road.
Ms Kasosa said the unidentified pedestrian, who died on the spot near Kabwata Basic School in Masaiti, is suspected to be between 25 and 30 years old.
Meanwhile, a Kasumbalesa-based bricklayer, who on December 3, 2013 defiled a 14-year-old girl at a house he was engaged to do some work, has been apprehended by the police.
Ms Kasosa said Samson Kalombo, 30, was apprehended yesterday within Kasumbalesa area and that the victim has since been issued with a medical report.
