A civic leader in Kaoma has bemoaned the failure by the area’s District Health Management Team to complete construction of a health facility and staff houses at Mushwala Health Post in Mangango Constituency.
Mushwala Independent Ward Councillor, Kashewe Sitali, said the construction of the health post, which is about 21 km from Nkenga Rural Health Centre and about 42 km from Mayukwayukwa Rural Health Centre, has stalled since October, 2010.
Mr Sitali alleged that the contractor, Litemo Limited, abandoned the project, which started in April 2010, at window level despite receiving funding from government.
He said in 2010 government released K250, 000 for the project which has been abandoned and despite him reporting the matter to the relevant authorities, nothing has been done.
“We are appealing to government to find ways and means of finishing this project and if there are any culprits they should face the law,” he said.
And Induna Mushwala said it is dismaying that despite the project receiving funding in 2009, it has still not been completed.
Induna Mushwala urged government to intervene into the issue if people in his area were to benefit from the privileges that other citizens with such health facilities enjoy.
