The Bottom Drilling Company contracted by Anglo American Company has halted the mineral exploration exercise in Chavuma district of North-Western province following the onset of the rainy season.
Chavuma District Commissioner Lawrence Kayumba said the exploration works have stalled as it becomes a challenge to operate drilling machines during the rainy season.
Mr Kayumba said the works will commence as soon as the rains finish adding that the company has drilled about 390 metres deep in Kalombo while the exercise will be extended to Chiyeke and Kakoma areas.
He said in an interview yesterday that samples are being collected in a bid to determine the kind of mineral deposits that would be available in the district.
Mr Kayumba added that such exploration works consume a lot of time before the actual mineral deposits are identified.
