SCZ board chairperson, Mwamba Kalenga said Zambians should take a leaf from their colleagues in West and North Africa who were occupying lofty seats in many international sport organisations.
In congratulating Joe Malanji on his election as Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) president when he addressed the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) council at the weekend, Kalenga said local sport was bound to benefit greatly if more Zambians held positions in continental and global
federations.
Kalenga said the SCZ was happy that Malanji, the immediate-past ZGU president, took over the mantle in the continental golf authority.
He urged Malanji to help other local golf administrators break onto the international scene by appointing them in some AGC sub-committees.
The SCZ said it was gratifying to see administrators like Malanji and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president, Kalusha Bwalya holding top positions in international organisations.
Kalusha is a committee member in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and also seats on the world-governing body, FIFA’s technical committee, while veteran administrator, Patrick Chamunda is a board member of the International Olympic Committee.
And Kalenga said SCZ would no longer tolerate sport associations which ask for funding at the 11th hour.
He said affiliate member associations needed to present their programmes to SCZ on time instead of ambushing the national sport mother body at the last minute or even go straight to the Sports Minister for help.
“SCZ will not allow people coming at the 11th hour asking for funding to attend an international event. We will have a schedule of meetings.
“We need to know what we are doing as adults,” Kalenga told the ZGU council in Kabwe on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kalenga said former ZGU president, Emmanuel Katebe would chair the SCZ’s disciplinary committee.
He said SCZ expected Katebe to perform as the council would not compromise on discipline among affiliate member associations.
