Zambia Police urged to respect role of the media

The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia chapter has advised the Zambia Police service to respect the role of the media.

MISA Zambia Chairperson Nalumino Nalumino says it is wrong for the Zambia Police to threaten those reporting about the clashes involving Patriotic Front cadres who have become a danger to the general public.

Mr. Nalumino has expressed concern that Police could threaten the media for reporting the truth of what is happening on the ground involving PF cadres.

He tells Qfm News that Police should simply accept that they have failed to deal the PF cadres than issuing threatening statements that will not help solve the problem at hand.

He says there is need for the Police and the general public to understand the role of the media and leave them to operate independent especially in situations that require alerting the public.

Mr. Nalumino says if the media did not high light the bloody clashes which lead to the death of one member of the Patriotic Front, the nation could still be in the darkness.
