Meanwhile, The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) has expressed disappointment that the Maldives presidential election process has not been concluded after the expiration of President Mohammed Waheed Hassan’s term of office on November 11, 2013.
The Group said in a statement issued yesterday that the breach of the November 11, 2013 constitutional deadline to inaugurate a new president followed repeated delays to the electoral process as a result of annulment by the Supreme Court of the first-round elections held on September 7, 2013.
There was also failure to proceed with three further elections on September 28, 2013.
The CMAG emphasised the urgency of ensuring a swift conclusion to the electoral process.
