GOVERNMENT is displeased about last week’s violence in Lusaka in which one person died.
And police say they have intensified investigations into the matter following President Sata’s directive that the culprits should be brought to book.
Chief Government spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya said in a statement yesterday that police should be professional as they investigate the matter.
“We reiterate our earlier call to the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure that all culprits, regardless of their positions in the ruling party or even in Government, are brought to book,” he said.
Mr Kapeya said Government will not tolerate lawlessness and will not allow unscrupulous people to tarnish its image by conducting atrocities on people.
He also said Government has no intentions of interfering in police investigations as it is being insinuated by some politicians.
Mr Kapeya said making unjustifiable attacks on Government and the police has the potential to derail the course of investigations which have so far reached an advanced stage.
“As investigations are going on, Government wishes to warn all PF and Government officials not to interfere with the investigations as doing so will be denying the Zambian people their desire to have justice prevail,” he said.
And police spokesperson Charity Chanda said nine suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder.
Mrs Chanda said the nine are being held in connection with the murder, unlawful wounding and assault.
She said police will record statements from victims of Thursday’s violence who are still receiving treatment at various health centres in Lusaka.
Mrs Chanda said suspects that were arrested in connection with the violence will appear in court tomorrow.
Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea
shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic
but I had to tell someone!
