Luapula Province police commissioner Malcom Mulenga confirmed the incident in an interview from Mansa yesterday.
Mr Mulenga said the incident happened on Tuesday around 14:00 hours and identified the suspect as Leonard Chola of Chief Munkanta’s area.
“We’ve arrested a 19-year-old man of Kawambwa for attempting to have carnal knowledge of a she-goat. He has been charged with bestiality and will appear in court soon,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said the goat was the property of Kedrick Mwenya of Ntololo village.
Meanwhile, a two-year-old girl of Mwense who was attacked by a jackal two months ago has died of rabies.
Martha Kabela was attacked by a jackal about six weeks ago and lost her lips and teeth in the process.
The incident happened when Martha was returning home from the stream where she had gone to wash clothes with other juvenile siblings.
Both Mr Mulenga and Mwense district commissioner Victor Kasuba confirmed the development in separate interviews.
Mr Kasuba said Martha died a week ago at home after being discharged from hospital as her parents were still looking for money to take her back to hospital for treatment of rabies.
He said the deceased started barking like a dog shortly before she died.
“Her parents could not raise about a K1,750 which the hospital wanted as payment for the rabies vaccine and instead of taking her to the hospital for treatment, her mother kept her at home, where she was using herbs to treat the deceased and by the time she thought of taking her to hospital, it was too late,” Mr Kasuba said.
He said his office would have assisted in raising the money that was required to pay at the hospital if the matter had been reported to his office.
