SPORTS Minister Chishimba Kambwili has said he will soon travel to China to meet the owners of CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines (CLM) over the release of the sports complex in Luanshya which Government intends to turn into a sports university.
In April this year, Government announced that it intended to turn the sports complex for the construction of Zambia’s first ever sports university in Luanshya where degree courses in sports management and physical education (PE) would be taught.
The minister said once the release of the sports complex was agreed on with CLM, the Government would quickly move in to lay ground work.
He said the ministry of Sport was in a hurry to deliver a sports university as promised to the Zambian people.
“Very soon I will be flying to China to meet the owners of Luanshya Copper Mines so that we can negotiate the release of CLM’s sports complex to Government.
“We want to move in quickly and start working. We are hopeful and confident that the negotiations with our Chinese friends will produce positive results,” he said.
The former Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines sports complex has been dormant for a long time.
