A 28-YEAR-OLD man of Kansenshi in Ndola died on the spot yesterday while five others sustained injuries after three vehicles collided on Nkana road.
Acting Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa confirmed
in an interview yesterday that the accident happened around 09:00 hours opposite Wanderers Club.
Ms Kasosa named the deceased as Emmanuel Chileshe of house number 12 Kuomboka Drive.
“Mr Chileshe, who was driving a Toyota Hiace registration number ALB 7131, was over-speeding and he hit into a Toyota Noah which skidded and hit into a Toyota Spacio which was coming from the opposite direction,” Ms Kasosa said.
She said Mr Chileshe sustained head injuries and died on the spot after his vehicle collided with a Toyota Noah and later rammed into a tree.
Ms Kasosa said the driver of the Toyota Noah identified as Lameck Chungu, 59, of house number seven, Kuomboka Drive, sustained cuts on the arm and head and is admitted to Ndola Central Hospital.
Ms Kasosa also said Elvis Mwape, 29, of Chipulukusu township, who was driving a Toyota Spacio, escaped with minor injuries.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Chileshe was not carrying passengers in his minibus at the time of the accident.
She said the three vehicles are extensively damaged.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Chileshe’s body is in Ndola Central Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem and burial.
And a check by the Daily Mail crew which rushed to the scene found a combined team of traffic police officers and firefighters trying to retrieve Mr Chileshe’s body from the wreckage.
