Kambwili said in an interview that Government was willing to support any efforts that were aimed at taking Zambia’s sport to greater heights.
The Minister said the hosting of various sports events would help the country improve on development of various sports infrastructure.
He advised national sports associations to emulate the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) who last weekend won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) bid to host the 2017 Under-20 Youth games.
Kambwili said Government would rally behind FAZ in improving sports facilities ahead of the 2017 CAF games and that it would do the same to any association that wins hosting rights.
He said Zambia’s dream of becoming one of the powerhouses in sports in Africa would only be achieved if all stakeholders played an active role in realising this goal.
Kamwbili added that Government had shown its commitment towards the development of sports in Zambia and that hosting of international tournaments was critical for infrastructure development.
“I would like to challenge associations to take keen interest in pushing in their bids to host international tournaments. As Government, we are ready to support such associations because we feel that this is one way of reclaiming our past glory in sports.
“We have done it before and we will not fail. I want to leave behind a legacy that will make it difficult for others to match because my desire is to see all sports disciplines receive a fair share of resources,” he said.
