Riverside Apostolic Church in Westover is a place where visitors are welcome. Sunday, September 22 they had some visitors who traveled longer than the normal Sunday drive to church, they came all the way from Zambia.
That was the first visit Superintendent Morgan Mwanza, and Assistant Superintendent Benjamin Daka, of the Pentecostal Church of Zambia had to the United States.
“This is a great country and the people are good, so kind with us,” said Bishop Mwanza “And we have great pastors within the United Pentecostal Church of Zambia. The most memorable places are Washington D.C., we got to see a lot of things.”
They each had the chance to speak before the Riverside Apostolic Church. Daka said there are cultural differences but they are all there for the same reason.
“There’s no difference, the worship is exactly the same,” said Reverend Daka. “That’s the way we worship back home. Even though we are more into dancing, and jumping, and clapping hands. It’s the same thing.”
Pastor David Hudson said his church supports leaders and churches in Zambia.
“To actually see them in person, and hear them, and meet them, is a very wonderful thing,” Pastor Hudson said. “We always love when the missionaries come. But when we have leaders, such as this, who are from the particular country, it makes it even that much more special.”
Pastor Hudson prepared a number of surprises for the guests, including a trip to the Kenyan Café in Morgantown to have some comfort food, and more.
“When we came in to church this morning we found a very good message receiving us from Zambia,” Bishop Mwanza said. “And the third surprise is that the services are good, and the people that worship… We didn’t see any difference from how we worship in Zambia.”
Mwanza and Daka’s next stop will be St. Louis for the United Pentecostal Church International Conference.
