Herve Renard intends to see out his contract as Zambia coach despite a disappointing 2013 for the 2012 AFCON winners.
Renard future is uncertain after failing to qualify Zambia to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2013 CHAN finals both coming in the wake of their 2013 Africa Cup flop when Chipolopolo failed to retain their AFCON crown.
His contract is due to expire in mid 2014.
“At the moment we have finished our qualifiers, the issue is simple, I remain with the few months of my contract and the next qualifiers for Africa Cup will start in March 2014,” Renard said.
However, the 2015 Africa Cup preliminary round qualifiers only begin during the weekend of July 18-20, 2014 after the draws for the Morocco finals will be held in South Africa during the CHAN tournament.
That scenario also means Zambia will be competitively inactive for a good ten months following their elimination from the Brazil qualifiers on September 6 when they lost 2-1 away to Ghana.
“So it’s not necessary to start the qualifiers if I am not extending my contract,” Renard said.
“But we have to sit, we have to talk about a lot of things because it’s important because I want to improve and on our part we have to improve about a lot of things especially regarding our organisation.”
