Following the arrest of two Chinese nationals by the Anti Corruption Commission for bribing a ZRA customs official with K 10, 000 to enable Golden Peacock Hotel bring in vehicles, the revenue authority has moved in on the Chinese hotel.

A source in ZRA has revealed that a full scale investigation has been instituted by the Revenue Authority on tax affairs matters of the company.

The officer from ZRA has also been commended for reporting the matter.

Meanwhile the source has also revealed that ZRA has written the Immigration Department for Assistance in apprehending a Mr. Iqbal Mohammad of passport No. BH 1339241 and holder of NRC 998088/11/2 to help with concluding investigations of customs offences.

The ACC has arrested the two Chinese Nationals over a K10, 000 bribe offered to a Zambia Revenue official.

ACC Public Relations Manager Timothy Moono has named the two as Ma Ping Ping, 23, and Kan Weiwei, 26, both of Golden Peacock Hotel in Lusaka.

He says details are that between 30th August 2013 and 3rd September 2013, Kan Weiwei , an Assistant Manager at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lusaka a Subsidiary of the SOGECOA Group of Companies, and Ma Ping Ping, a Clerk at the same hotel, jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown, did corruptly offer and actually gave K10,000 cash gratification to a Senior Collector in charge of Credibility and Controls at Zambia Revenue Authority, Customs Services as an inducement or reward for him to facilitate the importation of vehicles for Golden Peacock Hotel on duty free under the Tourism Rebate facility provided for under Statutory Instrument No. 69 of 2012.

Ka Weiwei and Ma Ping Ping have since been detained and will appear in court soon.
