Zambia’s European-based stars head for their World Cup qualifier in Kumasi looking to erase a disappointing weekend at their respective clubs.
On Sunday in Russia, midfielder Chisamba Lungu came off the bench in the 74th minute for FC Ural who tumbled to a 3-0 home loss against Rubin Kazan.
And on the same date in Holland, striker Jacob Mulenga did not make FC Utrecht’s team in their 1-1 away draw at leaders PEC Zwolle.
It was the same situation on Saturday in England where striker Emmanuel Mayuka did not make the travelling party for Southampton’s 1-0 away defeat to Norwich.
The disappointment comes after Mayuka impressed in mid-week after he scoring his debut competitive goal in Tuesday’s 5-1 League Cup away win over Barnsley.
In Belgium, striker Rodgers Kola was on the bench in ninth placed KAA Gent’s 1-0 home win over Mons.
Meanwhile away from Europe and in China, Zambia captain Christopher Katongo played the full 90 minutes for promotion leaders Henan Jianye who returned to winning ways after a 2-1 home win over Youngchang Junhao.
However, the striker did not find the target with seven games to go before Henan can confirm their promotion.
