ZAMBIA has reaped seven medals at the 2013 Zone Six Darts Confederation Youth Championships in Malawi which attracted seven countries and came to end on Saturday.
In this tournament held at the College of Medicine Sports Complex in Lilongwe, the Zambian players got silver and six bronze medals as the hosts, Malawi minted two gold and one silver while South Africa struck three gold, one silver and one bronze.
Zambia settled for bronze in the boys 13 and 15 years after accumulating 38 points in a round robin on 38 points behind eventual winners, Malawi on 43 points and runners-up, Swaziland on 42 points.
Zimbabwe got gold in the Pairs Knock Out with Swaziland picking up their second silver while Zambia won another bronze.
The story was similar in the Singles where Zambia again minted bronze with Malawi taking their second gold and Swaziland winding up their campaign with another silver medal. South Africa won gold in the Team Games for the 16-18 years category as the hosts got silver while Zambia were third again which guaranteed them another bronze.
Zambia managed to grab silver and another bronze medal in the Singles Knock Out while South Africa picked up the top slot and a bronze. The South Africans also dominated the Pairs event, winning the top two prizes with Zambia and Zimbabwe sharing a bronze each.
Zambia Darts Confederation (ZDC) secretary general Samuel Zulu, who accompanied the team to Malawi, said the national squad played well for the first time at the regional championships in four years.
Zulu also thanked Government and the Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) for the support rendered to ZDC and also for their efforts in sponsoring all sport disciplines in the country.
