Opposition upbeat in Mkaika

OPPOSITION political parties participating in Thursday’s  Mkaika parliamentary by-elections have expressed confidence of scooping the seat.

MMD campaign manager Alexander Miti said he was confident the party candidate Peter Phiri would carry the day.

“The ground is already fertile for us the MMD and we are certain of scooping the seat under our able candidate Peter Kafunkha Phiri,” Mr Miti said.

He said the people of Mkaika were still behind the former ruling party.

MMD Kasenengwa Member of Parliament (MP) Victoria Kalima and her Vubwi counterpart Eustarckio Kazonga, who were in the campaign team, said the party would carry the day via a landslide victory.

“We have put up a good campaign that come Thursday, we shall win with a big margin,” Dr Kazonga said.

National Restoration Party (NAREP) general secretary Jevan Kamanga said the party candidate Nigel Mphakateni was the best to carry the day.

Reverend Kamanga said his party had done everything to ensure it scooped the seat.

UNIP Eastern Province chairperson Donald Sakala said Nelson Mwale, the former ruling party candidate was well-known and ready for the election.

Mr Sakala said his party had done the necessary groundwork and had received overwhelming response and support from the voters.

The Patriotic Front (PF) is featuring David Phiri who is the immediate past MP for the constituency.
