-The opposition United National Independence
Party ( UNIP) has called for peaceful by-elections in Chipata central constituency on July 25.
UNIP vice president Njekwa Anamela said political parties should embrace peace by respecting
each during the campaigns.
Mr. Anamela said he was sad to learn that some political thugs
allegedly attacked members of UNIP who were putting up campaign posters in the constituency
and urged police and the conflict management committee to take
action.
He was speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Chipata today.
And UNIP sys the time was now ripe for Chipata Central constituency to
have new politicians that will bring fresh ideas to develop the area.
Mr. Anamela said the UNIP candidate, Elina Nyirenda, is particular
about development and issues of representation.
He said his party was ready for the by-election because it has a
candidate who is marketing herself very well despite limited resources.
Mr. Anamela observed that the UNIP candidate is enlightened
on the issues affecting Chipata Central constituency saying the
constituency needs to be transformed.
He alleged that recycled politicians will not add value to the constituency
because they will always come with the same stories of cheating
people.
‘’ We are not afraid about with the resources from the ruling party
because all the
infrastructure that is being talked about was brought by UNIP when it
was in power and that is the track record our candidate will rely
upon,’’ Mr. Anamela said.
The UNIP vice president is in the district to drum up support for the party candidate Elina
Nyirenda in the Chipata Central constituency by-election slated for
next week on July 25.
