–A youth organization has observed that if the problem of youth unemployment is not addressed, there will be no hope of a prosperous future for them in the country.
Youth in Action for Sustainable Development (YASD) Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Chansa, says most challenges being faced by youths in the country are due to high levels of unemployment.
Speaking during the launch of the YASD- Lafarge Green and Clean campaign in Chilanga District today, Mr Chansa stated that the levels of youth unemployment in the country are distressing, saying it has resulted in youths engaging themselves in negative vices such as crime and drug abuse.
He said these vices can only be curbed when the problem of youth unemployment is solved.
Mr Chansa said the Green and Clean Campaign is aimed at involving local communities to effectively take care of the environment.
And speaking when she represented Chilanga District Commissioner, District Education Board Secretary, Ruth Phiri, said the Patriotic Front (PF)’s pro-poor developmental agenda is already bearing fruit.
Mrs Phiri said government has created a conducive environment for youth innovation in various sectors of the economy.
And Lafarge Corporate Affairs Director, Eugene Chungu, said Lafarge will support any initiative aimed at protecting the environment.
