Diagonistc Center construction works abandoned in Katete District
Katete, July 12, 2013, ZANIS…Construction works worth K45,000 of a 1 x 2 Diagnostic Counseling and Testing (DCT) rooms project in Chinkhombe area in chief Mbango’mbe’s has been abandoned.
This came to light during the Ordinary District Development Coordinating Committee meeting (DDCC) held at at Katete’s Boma board room, yesterday.
According to the report submitted by the planning subcommittee a Welcome Enterprise Construction company of Chipata District was contracted by the District Health Office in 2012 to construct 1x 2 DCT rooms.
It was revealed that the company bought building materials which were brought on site and foundation excavation started but the contractor abandoned the project without giving reasons.
Member of the committee reported that the District Community Health Office made frantic efforts to trace the contractor but failed.
The report further revealed that the matter was reported to provincial health office who have engaged provincial buildings department for further action to trace the truant businessman.
And Katete District Commissioner Peter Kaisa has appealed to the Provincial buildings office in Chipata to quickly investigate the whereabouts of the contractor.
Mr Kaisa stated that this was why foreign contractors were preferred to some locals as they were fond of abandoning and doing shoddy works.
He said that the project was important in the area as it would have increased counseling and testing there by saving many lives.
