Road accident leaves one dead
Lundazi, July 11, ZANIS ——– One person died on spot while eight others sustained minor injuries and are admitted in Lundazi District Hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road traffic accident.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the accident to ZANIS, and identified the deceased person as Madulo Phiri aged 33 of Thembwe village of Chief Mwase in Lundazi district.
Ms Chipalila said the accident happened on Monday 8 July 2013 and named the driver as Chalo Phiri aged 30 who was driving a Mistumbish carter registration number ALF 2574 who was coming from Lundazi boma to Mwase Subcentre, carrying 8 passengers when the accident happened.
The Police Commissioner attributed the cause of accident to excessive speed that led to driver Phiri fail to negotiate a corner near Chilora village in Chief Mwase’s area along Mwase- Chijemu feeder road.
Meanwhile a 35 year old teacher of Kazonde Primary School in Lundazi district died later in Lundazi District hospital after falling off from his bicycle after he lost control along Lundazi-Chipata road.
Eastern province Police Commissioner disclosed this to ZANIS in Lundazi, saying the accident happened on Monday 8th July 2013 and identified the deceased teacher as Masauso Banda.
And Lundazi District Hospital Officer Dr Allan Chisenga confirmed receiving Masauso Banda on 08 July 2013 but said Banda died later around 21.00 hours following head injuries he sustained in the accident.
