Trio nabbed with fake green bucks in Mazabuka
Mazabuka, July 8th, 2013, ZANIS —– Police in Mazabuka have arrested three men who were found to be in possession of Two thousand and forty (US$ 2,040) United States Dollars counterfeit notes.
Southern Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the arrest of the three men in an interview with ZANIS in Mazabuka this morning.
The suspects were identified as Lawrence Nawa aged 57 a resident of Overspill compound in Mazabuka, Voice Malambo 58 of Itebe Village I Mazabuka and Richard Nzala 39 of Lusaka’s Chilenje compound.
Ms. Katanga stated that the trio was nabbed by police at Canmill guest house after a tip off from members of the public.
She stated that the three men were at the time of their arrest at the guest house were the y were conducting their illegal transaction found to be in possession of the US$2040 amounting to K125, 000 in US$100 notes.
The three men who are alleged to be behind the increased circulation of counterfeit notes in Mazabuka District were nabbed on Saturday evening around 19:00 hours and have been remanded in police custody pending court appearance.
And police sources at the station disclosed that the counterfeit notes were brought into Mazabuka from Lusaka by Nzala who was using Nawa and Malambo as a linkage for conducting his illegal transactions.
The sources disclosed that a number of unsuspecting residents in the township had been duped and swindled of their money by way of buying commodities from them using the counterfeit notes.
