Chikankata communities urged to cooperate with govt
Mazabuka, July 4th, 2013, ZANIS — Ruling PF Chikankata District Political Secretary Zumba Mweemba has urged the electorate to cooperate and support the road contractor, Tukamona Construction Company, who has been engaged to work on roads in the area.
Mr. Mweemba says the party is saddened to note that some people are trying to frustrate government’s efforts aimed at improving the road network in the newly created district.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Mweemba said this in an interview in Chikanta, yesterday.
He said that some residents, in whose areas earmarked for the works , were reluctant to vacate portions of the land to allow the contractor to construct the road.
Mr. Mweene was making reference to the ongoing rehabilitation road works on the Nansenga – Nega-Nega road where some people that have settled along the road are allegedly reusing to move out to pave way for its expansion.
He said the P.F party in the area has received complaints from the contractor that villagers who have settled on the land earmarked for the road construction were resisting to vacate thereby making it difficult for the contractor to smoothly conduct the works.
He said that government will not allow the situation to continue saying people should realize that the complete rehabilitation of the wide range of roads in the area will bring meaningful development to them.
He pointed out that the road rehabilitation will also benefit people of Chikankata District and hence the need for them to embrace and support the project.
The Chikankata District official said the PF government has demonstrated its commitment to improving the lives of its people warning that those that deliberately want to frustrate its developmental agenda will not be spared.
