Karavinas endanger lives in New Mulobezi district

Mulobezi District Commissioner Charles Mwananguba has described the security situation in the newly created district as dangerous following recent attacks from Karavinas and has since appealed government to send more police reinforcement.

 

 

And Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister Josephine Limata says government will send more police officers  to the new Mulobezi District to provide security in order to safeguard life and property in the area.

 

 

Mr. Mwnanguba said the district has a high crime rate especially in stock thefts, assault and other   crimes due to Karavina activities.

 

 

Karavinas are a group of people in western province that have for years now been causing sporadic attacks on their unsuspecting victims who they later kill and loot property from.

 

 

The DC explained that there are only three police officers in the entire district hence making the manning of the district almost impossible due to its vastness coupled with lack of transport.

 

 

He  was speaking when Ms. Limata called paid a courtesy call at his office at the newly established Mulobezi administration office, yesterday.

 

 

Mr. Mwananguba pointed out that the presence and activities of karavinas if left unchecked, has the potential to discourage would be investors in the newly create district.

 

 

 He made a passionate appeal to the western province police command to consider sending a vehicle to the district to easy mobility of the three officers so they can patrol the district adequately.

 

 

And in response, Gender and Child Development Deputy Minister Josephine Limata says government will send more police officers to the new Mulobezi District to provide security in order to safeguard life and property in the area.

 

 

Ms. Limata,  who is also Lwampa Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) MP,  warned people that were harboring the karavinas that they will be prosecuted and jailed for providing a safe haven for criminals.

 

 

She said President Michael Sata was determined to develop all parts of the country therefore will not allow and criminal elements and other disgruntled people to derail his development agenda.

 

 

President Sata created nine new districts in Western province as a way of accelerating development in the region.

 

 

Other newly created districts in the province include Lwampa, Mwandi, Sioma, Mitete, Ntyama, Limulunga, Nalolo and Sikongo district.
