Barn motor rally attracts 10 drivers

THIS year’s Barn National Rally, scheduled for next weekend, has attracted 10 local drivers who are expected to compete for honours in the 300-kilometre event in Lusaka.
The rally, which will start and finish off at Barn Motel, has attracted top local drivers and expected to lead the pack is national rally champion Jassy Singh, 2012 African champion Mohammed Essa, Ashish Patel and Farook Ticklay, among others.
Speaking when he handed over a KR20,000 donation to the Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) at Barn Motel in Lusaka yesterday, managing director Mwamba Mulenga said the motel was proud to be associated with motor sport in Zambia, hence the donation.
Barn Motel has been sponsoring the Barn rally which is the third national event on the ZMSA calendar for the last six years.
Mulenga pledged Barn Motel’s continued sponsorship to ZMSA, saying the donation would go towards the staging of the event, accommodation, meals and other services to be offered to the drivers and their crews.
He said the motel felt duty-bound to plough back to the community in which it operated by partnering with ZMSA to offer the residents and the patronage at large, the rally.
“We are proud to be part of the Zambia Motor Sports Association calendar. We also wanted to lend a hand to the growth of our ever popular sport in our country because we realised that as a corporate entity we could not leave everything to the Government,” Mulenga said.
