Registration Department urged to speed up its efforts
Chipata, June 18, 2013, ZANIS — Government has urged the Department of National Registration in Eastern province to speed up its efforts to ensure that more people acquire the National Registration Cards (NRC) in the province.
Eastern Province Minister Malozo Sichone says his administration was concerned most people in rural areas in the province who either had attained the required 16 years of age, lost or damaged their cards did not have the opportunity to replace and acquire NRCs.
He said this when he addressed Heads of Government departments in Chadiza district.
The Minister cited the case of a 40 year old man of Lundazi district who did not have an NRC adding that it was important that all eligible citizens acquire the legal document.
Mr. Sichone said there was an indication that the department had gone into slumber hence the need to awake and ensure that people acquire the card through mobile NRC issuance.
‘’It is important that all eligible citizen who have attained the age of 16 years including all those who need to replace their destroyed, damaged or lost cards have the legal document,” he said.
He said that the department should not wait for the mobile registration to reach out to the most remote places to issue the NRCs.
He however said that there was also need to sensitize people on the need to acquire NRC as it was a legal document that showed that one was a citizen of the country.
