BRITAIN’S police were left in shock last night after David Cameron said yesterday that they were only “relatively” honest.
The Prime Minister’s comments are likely to inflame tensions between police and Government – already at breaking point over budget cuts and the ongoing “Plebgate” row.
Mr Cameron made the criticism when he was asked on TV about Libya’s progress towards democracy.
He said: “We sometimes take for granted this in the West – that you have a relatively honest police force, you have a standing army, you have the institutions of government so things can get done.”
Referring to former Chief Whip Andrew Mitchell’s alleged altercation with police, he said: “We should never say we have some sort of absolutely perfect system.”
