About 68 medical staff at the newly constructed Shangombo District Hospital are sharing 14 houses and hospital wards for the accommodation.
Shangombo District Hospital Medical Superintendent Patrick Chikunta disclosed this to Western Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba during his tour of the hospital recently.
Dr. Chikunta explained that hospital was operating without a laboratory and x-ray room including a mother’s shelter.
He noted that relatives to patients are currently using an old store room made of iron sheets as shelter.
He said the challenge of lack of accommodation and transport has affected the medical and supporting staff in their execution of their duties.
And Western Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba thanked the hospital staff for their sacrifice in offering health services to the people.
Mr. Mwamba said the delivery of health services was very important as it was a yardstick which citizens use to measure government’s commitment to the people.
He told workers at the hospital that government has put up accelerated development measures in areas such as Shangombo District.
