Government calls for partnership to address girl child challenges
Lusaka, June 15, ZANIS—–Community Development, Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister Jean Kapata has implored society to work closely with government in finding lasting solution to problems that hinder the development of a girl child in the country.
And Girls Brigade of Zambia (GBZ) National Chaplain Eletina Nyambe has commended government for enhancing its political will aimed at addressing child defilement, early marriages and other abuses that a girl child is subjected to.
Ms Kapata noted that government alone cannot manage to address all problems that hinder the proper development of a girl child.
She said this in a speech read on her behalf by Ministry of Gender, Mother and Child Development Deputy Director, Nicholas Banda in Lusaka today during the 120 years commemoration of the Girls Brigade formation.
The Commemoration was held under theme: “For We Walk by Faith, Not By Sight”.
Ms Kapata called for concerted efforts among key stakeholders in fighting poverty and social exclusion noting that government alone cannot manage to address all problems that hinder the development of a girl child.
Earlier, Girls Brigade of Zambia (GBZ) National Chaplain Eletina Nyambe commended government for enhancing its political will aimed at addressing child defilement, early marriages and other abuses that a girl child is subjected to.
Ms Nyambe noted that girl children have become an endangered species and are no longer safe even in their own homes.
She explained that the Girls Brigade has programmes that aimed at nurturing girl children into responsible citizens’ capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
The Girls Brigade started in England in 1893 and has since spread to over 50 countries including Zambia.
