Tackling corruption huge task-Namachila
Livingstone, June 10, ZANIS…Southern province permanent secretary
Bernard Namachila says the region has a huge task of tackling
corruption in organizations and communities for it record meaningful economic
development.
“We all have a huge task of reducing the opportunities for corruption
in our organizations and communities in the province if we are we to
see economic development in our province and country at large,” said
Mr. Namachila.
The permanent secretary said this today in a speech read on his behalf
by Livingstone District Commissioner Omar Musanje during the
training workshop for the National Anti-Corruption Policy (NACP)
dissemination focal point persons held at Livingstone Lodge.
Mr. Namachila said it was a well known fact that corruption was a
global economic challenge and has become endemic in some institutions
adding that there was need to equip NACP dissemination focal point
persons with knowledge and skills to drive the crusade against
corruption.
He observed that the creation of a provincial steering committee
comprising stakeholders from all public institutions, civil society,
faith based organizations and the private sector would help to
inclusively and effectively raise awareness on NACP.
Mr. Namachila also challenged the media to be proactive and take keen
interest in reporting, exposing and sensitizing people on corruption
and help in the dissemination of the NACP in the entire province.
“I want to challenge the media to be proactive and continue in
reporting, exposing and sensitizing people on corruption in the
province so that we can significantly reduce the opportunities for one
to engage in this evil vice,” said Mr. Namachila.
Mr. Namachila also implored the institutions represented in the meeting to submit dissemination
action plans and budgets for the dissemination of activities which will be forwarded
together with quarterly reports to his office and the Anti Corruption Commission-ACC.
And ACC Regional Manager Mweemba Mwape said the training of 52
focal point persons in disseminating the NACP will help to raise
awareness about corruption at the grass root level.
