Gender Minister, Inonge Wina, has called on the Church to resound and speak firmly against violence against women and children.

Speaking at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Women’s Fellowship Fundraising Function in Lusaka today, Ms Wina said Zambia has been plagued with violence against women and children, hence the need for the Church to actively teach society to prioritize the creation of an environment where women’s and children’s rights are protected.

This was in a speech read for her by Chief Child Development Officer, Samuel Mwenda.

Ms Wina commended the UCZ for its active role in caring for the vulnerable in society.

The minister also urged the Church to continue giving counsel to politicians in order to eradicate political violence.

Ms Wina said government remains committed to partnering with the Church in order to serve the interests of the Zambian people.

She said the fundraising function for a car would serve a noble cause that will ease the hardships the Church is currently facing.

And Matero UCZ Consistory Chairperson, Jay Antonio, said there is need to ensure that political violence is not brought into the Church as it is a sacred place of worship.

Rev Antonio said the vehicle for which the women’s fellowship was fundraising would be used in the church’s outreach programme.
