Support subsidy removal-westerners told
Mongu, June 6,2013,ZANIS—Sport and Youth deputy minister Chinga Miyutu has implored the people of western province to rally behind governments decision to remove fuel and maize subsidies.
Mr Miyutu made the appeal when he featured on a live radio programme on radio Liseli in Mongu today.
He explained that the removal of fuel and maize subsidies will allow government to channel resources to other demanding sectors of the economy.
Mr Miyutu who is also UPND Kalabo central Member of Parliament insisted during the radio programme that the government resource envelope is not adequate to address the needs of rural areas hence the removal of fuel and maize subsidies.
He explained that the resources saved from the removal of subsidies will go towards the construction of schools, health centers and upgrading of roads in rural areas.
The deputy minister stressed that an improved road network will assist farmers to easily transport their yields to the market unlike now when they are failing to do so due to the poor state of roads.
Mr Miyutu said the benefits which will be derived from monies saved from subsidies will be long lasting.
He urged the people of western province to give government a chance and see how the funds accrued from the removal of subsidies will be utilized.
And Mr Miyutu made a passionate appeal to the youths in the province to take advantage of the development fund targeted at empowering young people .
The deputy minister urged the youths to apply for the funds as the interest rate charged was minimal and manageable.
Mr Miyutu said the economy of the country will only develop when youths engage themselves in entrepreneurial activities and participate in job creation.
